PLC Programmer

As a PLC/HMI Programmer at B&M Technical Service, you will help the Operations Teams by creating and completing PLC/HMI programming for water and wastewater system projects. You will work to develop and implement software applications for our market products that help to control and monitor one of the world’s most valuable and limited resources – water! This position works out of our Coloma, WI, based centrally in Wisconsin for easy access to all parts of the state.

The job:
Each day, your primary role will be to develop PLC code and HMI graphics for our control systems. Projects will range from working on new panels and MCC’s as they are being manufactured in-house, to doing custom modifications for control systems that are currently in operation. You will utilize Microsoft Excel to organize programming functions, and your work will be mostly independent, but in a team setting that provides support and collaboration when needed.

The skills you need:
To succeed in this role, you must be proficient in programming Allen Bradley PLC’s and HMI’s. You must have experience with CompactLogix, MicroLogix and some ControlLogix as well as PanelView, Maple, Automation Direct, and Wonderware HMI programming. You must be a self-starter and have excellent time management and communication skills. A 2-year degree in Automation Technology and 3-4 years of experience are preferred.

Qualifications
Experience in PLC programming and troubleshooting
Knowledge of PLC hardware and software
Familiarity with process control systems
Ability to read and interpret electrical and control schematics
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Attention to detail and ability to work independently
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience in the water or wastewater treatment industry is a plus

Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain strong, long-lasting client relationships with water and wastewater systems
  • Develop trusted advisor relationships with key accounts, customer stakeholders, and decision makers
  • Operate as lead point of contact for all matters specific to accounts
  • Identify opportunities for sales in existing, replacement, and new systems
  • Prepare and present recommendations and quotations for solutions

Project Manager

We are seeking a Project Manager to join our team. This position involves estimating and project management of municipal and industrial wastewater and water treatment construction projects utilizing various project delivery methods while upholding B&M core values and meeting customer expectations. Applicant shall, over time, possess key skills overseeing projects, coordinating employees, subcontractors, and overall success of project(s) along with professional representation of B&M Technical Service. 

Essential Duties, Responsibilities, Functions 

Estimating 
  • Utilize engineer specifications and drawings to hard bid (Plan & Spec) estimate pumps, instrumentation, SCADA and other equipment as necessary.
  • Work with suppliers and contractors to coordinate scopes and obtain quotes.
  • Meet with owners & engineers collaborating on project inception, preparing project proposals & interviews.
  • Accurately interpretate project plans, specifications, & other contract documents.
  • Organize accurate bill of materials; produce submittals for engineer review. 
  • Coordinate change order estimation as required.
  • Conduct and present to owner value engineering ideas and cost savings.
  • Final project wrap up of cost incurred and installed quantities.
  • Find new customers, retain customers and work with them on long term project plans. 
Project Management 
  • Execute projects of various size & complexity from setup to closeout ranging from $5000 to $2.5 million.
  • Provide team leadership and communication with jobsite technicans and contractors.
  • Jointly coordinate labor, equipment, & subcontractor resources.
  • Coordinate and verify purchase orders required for projects; track lead times.
  • Conduct onsite progress meetings & monthly project inner office team meetings to ensure project is well communicated and managed by all team members.
  • Complete necessary contract review, progress payments, material & subcontract procurement, terms & conditions approval, invoicing approval, submittal review & approval of vendor documentation, RFI's, change orders, project critical path scheduling, O & M's, warranty, commissioning of systems, and other various documentation.
  • Maintains and monitor monthly job costing activities and performance. Recognizes areas of concern and work with team to resolve with best solution.
  • Affectively and professionally resolve contract discrepancies and onsite conflicts with owner, engineer, and other subcontractors.
  • Continually train and mentor others within the organization.
Engineering 
  • Understand and evaluate treatment waste systems and processes applying engineering principles and standards.
  • Provide generalized engineering support to customers regarding operations and processes.
  • Layout conceptual project design parameters with use of minimal information such as site plan and standard building practices.
  • Troubleshoot, resolve, and provide design options to owners and consulting engineers.

Qualifications / Performance Skills 
  • BAS Civil or Environmental Engineering, or related Construction Management degree or related experience.
  • 5-10 years project management & general engineering experience of various size construction project, preferably within the municipal markets.
  • Experience or ability to acquire training with the following software systems or equivalents: All Microsoft products, particular high level of familiarity and comfort with Microsot Excel.
  • Valid and clean driving record.
  • Desired Skills 
  • Ability to read, understand, and implement engineered specifications and drawings.
  • High level of organization skills, including coordinating with multiple teams across different organizations.
  • Professional verbal & written communication, proposal letter writing.
  • Ability to make critical decisions & execute with team affectively.

  • Understanding of the various project delivery constraints and requirements.

Technician

SUMMARY
Perform a variety of technical tasks in the installation, diagnosis, repair and maintenance of all components in the wastewater and freshwater treatment plant systems.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Confer with coworkers, customers, and others to discuss existing or potential engineering projects and products.
  2. Design, implement, maintain, and improve electrical instruments, equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.
  3. Direct and coordinate installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and customer requirements.
  4. Prepare specifications for purchase of materials and equipment.
  5. Supervise and train customers on use of installed equipment as necessary.
  6. Investigate and test vendors' and competitors' products.
  7. Demonstrate project production efforts to assure projects are completed satisfactorily, on time and within budget.
  8. Prepare and study technical drawings and specifications of electrical systems  to ensure that installation and operations conform to standards and customer requirements.
  9. Investigate customer complaints, determine nature and extent of problem, and recommend remedial measures.
  10. Assist in developing new equipment installations and major repairs.
  11. Develop quotes, estimating labor, material, and construction costs.
  12. Compile data and write reports on completion of projects for customer review.
  13. All other duties as assigned.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Technical knowledge, electrical knowledge, and customer service skills are of utmost importance in this position. A technical degree in the field of Instrumentation, Electrical Engineering, Electrical Power or related field with experience with our product lines and services. Applicants with experience with industrial controls, control systems, and PLC programming will be looked on favorably. Must be able to communicate well with others and present oneself professionally.
