I was lucky to spend last week at a Wonderware InTouch training. One of the things I thought was interesting was the emphasis on designing for Situational Awareness screens. While at first glance a situational awareness program may be less flashy, it does seem to have a really good basis in trying to provide the most useful and informative interface. For operators who are busy, out and about, and only look at the HMI when they're in and out of their office (aka, most operators!), a situational awareness design allows a lot of information to be seen quickly. I found this video on YouTube put out by Wonderware that explains it very well. Check it out and let me know what you think!
