WWA Annual Conference 2013 Recap

One of the reasons I like the Wisconsin Water Association Annual Conference is that it seems to draw a different crowd. Not that I don't love all of you that go to the other conferences, but I always seem to meet and see people at WWA that I don't see anywhere else. And that's pretty fun!

For me, the conference kicked off at the golf outing on Tuesday. To the thankful relief of all, I was not golfing but stationed out at the par 3 hole for the Closest to the Pin competition. This is only my second golf outing I've been at, but I really enjoy volunteering for these events. It was a beautiful crisp fall day at a beautiful golf course; pretty much the perfect way to spend a day outside. We were really happy to have 100% participation from all golfers for the competition, and raised a bunch of money for the YP scholarship fund.

The next day I was at Kalahari for the exhibits. I have to say, the first couple hours of the day made the conference totally worth it to me. Lots of great conversations and introductions. This year, the water museum set up in the middle of the hall was a really awesome addition. The 1931 water meter we found a while back in an antique mall would have fit right in. After a great lunch, the water tapping competitions were excellent entertainment. It was cool to see the three teams (all from Wisconsin this year) compete, and the first women's team was amazing.

The exhibit hours on Thursday were gone before I knew it. Right after the exhibit hall closed, I attended the business lunch this year. As the YP Scholarship Coordinator, I was really happy to have a little time to spotlight the scholarship recipients from this year, especially since one was there to join us. Then it was back to the office for me, to take care of a few of the calls I missed while I was gone! :)

I think the most impressive thing about WWA is the number of volunteers that put in a great amount of time to making the conference (and entire organization) tick. The thoughtfulness and improvements from year to year are evident. I look forward to next year!
